Lexi Jayde’s 'Drunk Text Me'

Now and again you listen to a song and find that it hits all your heartstrings at the same time.

Lexi Jayde’s new song “Drunk Text Me” blends words, melody, and emotion in a perfectly heartbroken storm. With her voice somehow landing between painful resignation and quiet prayer, she dives deep into the painful space that anyone who has ever been heartbroken knows knows too well.

Like so many of the new artists finding success, Lexi gathered a huge audience when her preview of “Drunk Text Me” went viral across Tiktok in late November. The preview found its way onto Alexander23’s phone leading to him co-producing the final version of the song. They managed to craft a song dripping with vulnerability and pain yet a warm lining. It is the perfect track to get you through those moments when it feels like your world is ending and the person who broke your heart isn’t in it anymore.

The Los Angeles native is already doing incredible things, recently coming off tour with Adam Melchor. Despite what must have been one hell of a heartbreak her future looks bright. She is one of those artists whose journey is sure to be one for the books. With her writing holding a mature, timeless, and refreshing quality and the voice to back it up.

Lexi shares: “‘Drunk Text Me’ expresses that feeling of sadness and denial that you can often go through in a breakup, questioning why the person you once loved hurt you. In most breakups it’s often hard to find closure - I certainly had a hard time and wish there were explanations for things left unanswered. I kept wishing my ex would’ve texted me saying sorry to clear things up. I wrote the concept in my notes and the song blossomed from there. The song is so special and comes straight from my broken heart.”

What does authenticity mean to you and what do you find captivating?

Authenticity to me means being honest and genuine with yourself. I’ve always been captivated by people who are comfortable in their own skin and aren’t afraid of what others think. As an artist, I think it’s so important to be authentic with your music and share your experiences through them in hopes that it can help and inspire others.

What was it like finishing this song? Were you excited about it right away or did people’s reaction to it take you by surprise?

This song started as a voice memo with some melodies I created in my head and the lyric “I want you to drunk text me” that was written in my notes. When I brought it into the studio, it came together so quickly. I KNEW it was so special. After we finished the song, I texted the co-writers and my entire team was so excited about it. I actually finished recording the vocals in Nashville with one of the writers on Facetime which was so so cool! When I posted the song to TikTok I was in shock by everyone’s reaction. I knew it was special, but I didn’t really know how many people would react. I’ve posted my songs on TikTok for a while now but nothing has taken off like this so I was in shock! To see how many of my fans are affected by this song is so surreal and special.

What are your hopes for the new year?

I want to keep putting out meaningful music, continue to meet and connect with fans, perform more live shows, go on tour, and continue to collaborate with incredible artists, writers, and producers. I’d also love to learn how to produce and learn piano. There are so many goals I have this year and I can’t wait to see what’s to come!
