She breathes fashion and lives current trends: Coming from China to New York, Vera C. Wang is the perfect example of bridging fashion and lifestyles between the two continents. As awarded the first Chinese blogger in the United States, Vera was empowered and inspired by women around her. She carried on that empowerment to the next level, founding WG Empire Public Relations to further connect the dots between the two markets.

Who is Vera Chujun Wang and what is her story?

A little girl coming from China to the big apple, searching for herself. I went to NYU to study business and ended up building a business in fashion in New York City.

What has brought you into fashion and the PR industry?

A lot of girls got somewhat kind of famous at that time because of social media. I had the opportunity to write for the Asian community who live in New York City and got invited to the most important events, such as NYFW. After my first fashion show, I absolutely got drawn to that industry. And it was the best timing of it all: China’s economy was booming, E-Commerce was taking over the world, Alibaba was trying to collaborate with NYFW, and so were a lot of other big brands out there. So I built my PR team to help it all, bridging the gap between America and China.

Tell us more about WG Empire and your favorite collaborations so far!

WG is my first baby. It was definitely hard in the beginning to connect two huge countries and markets, and when I was young, it almost seemed impossible. I was working with established companies in both countries to start with such as Alibaba, Tmall, New York Fashion Week, Dior and Montblanc. I was scared, I thought I was gonna screw it up. But then I realized that this whole thing is new to everyone! They were all new to others’ cultures and marketing strategies and social media was a new industry, too. I actually made it work. I love bringing in the Chinese fashion world into the international platform and New York is the perfect place to do so. On the other hand, introducing beautiful brands to China is fantastic, too.

Inspired by everything Parisienne chic to ultra-modern New Yorker aesthetics, VERAFIED is such a timeless and urban brand! What is your design inspiration behind the label?

The brand is definitely heavily influenced by New York City where I live, I need my outfits to be practical, to be sharp, to be bossy. That’s what New York girls are like and what they are looking for. However, I would travel in Europe a lot and learn from the beautiful history, the elegance infused culture, and add this romanticism into VERAFIED, which seems to be lacking a lot in most of New York culture. Women should be both, bossy and sexy. And that’s what VERAFIED believes in.

Tell us more about VERAFIED’s latest collections and your favorite Spring essentials!

The latest collection is called #SilentNight, which is coincidentally matching what’s going on with the world right now. With the social distancing, the nights in new york are pretty much silent I would say. This collection features a lot of the color black, vegan leather, feathers, and organza fabrics. I want anyone wearing this collection to look and feel very subtle, effortless, cool, but also interesting, playful and charming. Like blooming in the dark, in the silent night.

My favorite spring essentials… My cropped vegan leather pants. They feel so easy, stretchy and warm. Much warmer than any jeans, which is great for Spring as it can still be quite cold in NYC. And most importantly, no matter what top you wear, those pants dress you up, always giving your outfit that edgy, bossy vibe.

How would you describe your personal style? Does it change a lot with fashion trends?

As simple as it gets, you can describe my style as the ultimate simple chic. Mostly ‘cause I’m a lazy person, or you can say because I like efficiency over anything else. I hate to layer up. If I can wear one piece, I would never wear two. And no, I don’t think I change much, I have had my basics from 5 or 6 years now.

I love buying great quality well-designed basics. It makes me feel like I have made a great investment. I hate fast fashion, every time I look at trendy but cheap-looking products I immediately think of polluted oceans and trapped penguins.

Who is your no. 1 fashion idol?

Audrey Hepburn.

What drives you each day in such a fast-paced world where social media rules?

The New York City sirens. HAHAHA which I kinda miss now. But seriously, it’s the fun during the process that drives me every day. I hate to reach the end, I almost never wanna make it to the end, I love the sweat and sweetness during the journey, where everyone is in there, working hard, stepping up, showing progress.

Your personality in three words…

Bossy, sexy, witty.

What does feminism mean to you?

I want the world to be a place where feminism is simply the norm and people stop talking about it. And girls just be whatever they want to be.
