Georgi Kay

I first discovered Georgi Kay when she opened up for Cub Sport at the Echo in Los Angeles. Her live looping music held such an interesting feeling in it. Making it feel like you stood alone in a empty field, tundra, desert all while you stood surrounded by other people having what appeared to be a similar experience. Georgi and I went on an adventure out to the Vasquez rocks for her shoot to capture that same vast and empty vibe. Georgi Kay could be your new favorite electronic Australian cowboy if your into that kind of thing. Checkout her full interview and editorial below.

Who are you?

Singer-songwriter, creator of stuff and things, child of a Brit and an Australian. 5‘9“ on a good day.

What does authenticity mean to you?

To be un-apologetically yourself. To follow the path your soul wishes to travel, not the path society or culture or a bunch of strangers tell you to. You know yourself best, so listen to your gut, keep your head down, work hard, be kind and stay humble.

Why music?

A series of chain reactions led me to discover that I could somewhat sing, so I wrote some songs, won some awards and got many thumbs up along the way. Now I’m here - pretty cool.

What is your song-writing process?

Sometimes I start with lyrics, other times I start with a bass synth (if I’m writing on my laptop) or chords (if I’m writing on my acoustic). Depends on what comes first, the soundscape or the lyrics. Regardless of which path I go with, an idea always sparks from visual imagery of some sort.

Outside of music, what are you passionate about?

Reading, making art, writing stories and poems, gaming, drawing, photography, watching sci-fi and horror films, cooking.

What does love mean to you?

Feeling fully seen by another.

Favorite lyric you have written?

I don’t feel that I’ve written it yet. And perhaps I never will.

How does it feel knowing well over a billion people have listened to your music?

Very grateful and appreciative of all the love and support my music receives by others. The intention is to write, create and release music for its therapeutic properties for my own Self, so to see and hear that it has a similar effect on others is beyond surreal and wonderful.

Where in the world are you happiest?

Gaming or reading a good book.

What’s next?

An EP consisting of 4 of the fan favourite songs off my debut album ‘WIGTD’, with ‘Lone Wolf (Reimagined)’ out now. My sophomore album, art pieces I’ve been making, a sci-fi novel, an award for 1 billion streams for the remix of my dance song ‘In My Mind’, some fashion collabs with friends, maybe a poetry book and most likely a US tour in 2020.
