A Woman Unbothered
A woman in a blue silk dress
Floats halfway submerged in sunlit green waters
Blonde hair moving slowly like a golden aura
Highlighting the golden flecks in her eyes
The birds overhead scream their warnings
Her ears submerged she doesn’t notice them
Hands making little hellos to the fish below her who say nothing
Her pale skin starts to turn pink the pre-curser to red that runs to raw
Freckles falling forward
She kicks her legs just enough to cause ripples
Causing lily pads a while away sway seconds after
Frogs with secrets in their throats
Disturbed only enough to miss the fly passing them
Lucky one-sided
The next one won’t find the same god-given gift
Turtles with moss coating their shells swim alongside the women
Wondering why something so divine
Floats in their teaming waters
They pass by silent in their scrutiny
She simply sighs
Hot air going into cold lungs
All she can hear is her own heartbeat in the water
Unsteady
Maybe she can stay here forever
Until her bones become a sandy bottom
Or maybe she will leave when the sun starts to dip below the earth’s embrace
Leaving the Moonlite waters alone in their masterpiece
The small child riding over the bridge watches her with wide eyes
Knowing he will never know the answer to this pondering thought
He only powerful enough to observe
This service
Like church
Mother Mary
Drowning her sorrows
In sunlight and green-toned water
8 feet deep and narrow
He crushes flower petals as he rides his cherry-red bike into a sunset languid in its departure
Chasing him home
Leaving her to memory
Unbothered
